On 20 October 2014, Coborn Engineering Ltd acquired a license of the patented grain independent polishing technology developed by the Scientific Research Centre for Diamonds (WTOCD).
According to Belgium-based WTOCD, the license will extend the existing technological cooperation between WTOCD and Coborn, UK, with the machining of diamond materials for industrial applications.
The license is granted as of January 2015 for Coborn’s new polishing machine. It is said that the machine would complement Coborn’s existing product portfolio, allowing up to 12 times faster machining of diamond. Commercialization of the first machines working with the new technology is expected to be seen at the beginning of 2016.
In addition, WTOCD is currently working with Coborns’ support on a new prototype for automatic gem-quality diamond machining.
WTOCD is a research centre to assist the Belgian diamond sector in increasing their competitiveness by making high-tech products and services available.
