L’ÉCOLE School of Jewelry Arts in Hong Kong displays historical gold jewellery pieces from the Mengdiexuan Collection at its third exhibition, The Art of Gold, 3000 Years of Chinese Treasures, from 26 March to 29 August 2021.
The exhibition will be open to the public with guided tours available in English, Cantonese and Mandarin. Among the 55 pieces each housed inside a glass display cabinet, audience gets to appreciate unique types of ancient Chinese accessories, such as hairpins, hair bun ornament and belt plaques. The selection illustrates four three millennia-old goldsmithing techniques: hammering and chasing, casting, granulation, wire and filigree.
On the exhibition catalog, Olivier Segura, the institute’s gemmologist and scientific director elaborates on how one can appreciate gold in its chemical, mineralogical, geological and jewellery-making aspects.
