Two rings in the hue of red are going up for auction as highlight lots at Bonhams’ coming Hong Kong Jewels and Jadeite sale on 20 June.
Lot 601: Spinel and diamond ring by Louis Vuitton
The cushion-shaped Tanzanian red spinel weighing 20.03-carat is what makes the ring extraordinary, given that spinel weighing over five carats are considered as rare. It was a header of Louis Vuitton's Haute Joaillerie Collection 'ACTE V' dated 2014.
In these few decades, spinels from Tanzania are more and more well-liked. Leslie Roskind, Hong Kong Bonhams Head of Jewellery, commented: “As the Asian market matures and becomes more sophisticated, the origin of a gemstone or a diamond is no longer the only determining factor for collectors.” “This opens up a wider variety of options for collectors and new market potential for the stones, as seen in the price growth of Mozambique rubies over the past two decades,” she added.
Lot 606: Ruby and diamond ring
The flower-shaped ring creatively applied oval-cut diamonds to form the masses of the four petals and sagely highlights the outline with single-row pavé rubies. Centring the piece is a 5-02-carat pigeon's blood ruby that originates from Mozambique.
