Lucara unearths a 1,174.76 carats diamond from its Karowe Diamond Mine in Botswana, the third diamond weighing over 1000 carats since 2015.
The exploration also found four other gem-quality roughs weighing 148-carat, 90-carat, 88-carat, 86-carat and 67-carat. Lucara assumed that the 1,174.76-carat was part of a larger diamond with an estimated weight of > 2000 carats. The stone will be transferred to HB Antwerp for a transformation into valuable collections of polished diamonds.
For the year to date, the mine has produced 17 diamonds greater than 100 carats, including 5 diamonds greater than 300 carats. The other two 1000-carat-plus diamond are the 1,758-carat Sewelô and 1,109-carat Lesedi La Rona.
