Alrosa introduces diamond-tracing technology of non-invasive laser mark which replicates the process that occurs in diamonds for millions of years and cannot be demolished or polished off, applicable to rough and polished natural diamonds.
The nano mark is stamped inside the crystal lattice and only visible with a special scanner. Connected to Alrosa’s digital database ALROSA Provenance, it carries information about the diamond’s origin, provenance and characteristics, an identification number, photo and video.
The technology is co-developed by scientists of the Russian Academy of Sciences and Alrosa’s Research Geological Enterprise (NIGP) and the Yakutniproalmaz Institute. Alrosa is currently seeking patents for it and has applied in the United States, China, Hong Kong, Israel, India, etc. Currently, it is available to business-to-business (B2B) clients. Alrosa plans to expand it to retail at a later stage.
