In a total of 650,000 carats offered, Grib Diamonds sees a competitive bidding and high demand for rough diamonds in Antwerp's sale. A purple diamond achieves a price record.
The batch was from AGD Diamonds’ Grib mine in Russia and raised US$65 million for Grib. Its head of sales Antony Dear said: “[There was] some weakness starting to creep into the bigger-sized rough, in the 5-carat to 10-carat range.” While high demand for rough persisted amid scarcities, prices remained flat overall, he added.
The highlight was a 7-carat purple rough diamond sold for US$65 million and a US$100,000 per carat. The sold rough set a record average price in the company’s seven-year history.
