Sotheby’s Hong Kong 2021 magnificent jewels autumn sales (part I) achieved a total of HK$389,273,200 (US$50,048,855) on Tuesday. Fine coloured diamonds continued to be extremely strong, while rare fei cui jewellery was among the most valuable lots sold.
Sold for HK$35 million as the top lot, a platinum and pink gold ring (photo 1) set with an exceptional emerald-cut 3.01-carat VS1 fancy vivid blue diamond and two modified triangular brilliant-cut fancy pink and fancy intense pink diamonds of 0.18 and 0.15 carat. Another coloured treasure, a pink gold ring (photo 2) featuring a pear-shaped 5.29-carat fancy intense green diamond fetched HK$23.8 million.
Capitalising on the Asian’s love for the auspicious number “eight”, two unmounted brilliant-cut D flawless white diamonds of 30.88 and 20.88 carats realised HK$30 million and HK$18 million respectively.
‘Fortunate Longevity’, a rare carved glassy fei cui pendant (photo 3) of vivid emerald green and very good translucency of around 188.0 carats garnered HK$22 million. A necklace composed of 33 fine fei cui beads of intense green and very good translucency with a ruby and diamond clasp was also sold for over HK$20 million.
