Rio Tinto has recently sold its final batch of blue diamonds from its Argyle mine to Hong Kong-based Kunming Diamonds in a record-breaking global tender.
The ‘Once in a Blue Moon Tender’ collection consisted of 41 lots (24.88 carats in total) of “beyond rare” Argyle blue and violet diamonds. Harsh Maheshwari, executive director of Kunming Diamonds said on a Business Wire news: "We are delighted to be part of Argyle's legacy in this historical moment, acquiring the Once in a Blue Moon collection. We cherish becoming the custodians of the final Australian treasures from this iconic and industry-defining mine, and look forward to unearthing the incredible possibilities in the years to come."
The entire world’s supply of rare pink, red, blue and violet diamonds from the Argyle diamond mine almost ceased production on 3 November 2020.
Kunming Diamonds is an Authorised Partner™ for Argyle Pink Diamonds™. The company also bought the 2.24-carat Argyle EternityTM pink diamond from the 2020 Argyle Pink Diamonds Tender. The diamond was said to be “the most valuable fancy vivid diamond in the tender’s 37 years of history”. (Photo courtesy: Rio Tinto)
