Chopard wins GPHG’s best jewellery watch

05-11-2021

The Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG) unveiled its 2021 prize list yesterday. Chopard’s Fairmined gold watch has taken the jewellery watch prize.

The ‘Flower Power’ wristwatch from the Red Carpet Collection (photo 1) is set in ethical Fairmined-certified 18-karat white gold with pink sapphires, pear-shaped and brilliant-cut diamonds. On the pink mother-of-pearl dial there are 12 pink sapphires performing the hour markers.

“The jewellery watch is very much about Chopard. This is a great recognition. I think this watch is particularly through to the spirit of what a high jewellery watch should be like. It is built around the stones, and it really plays with the light, and it has just a sensational effect on the wrist,” said Karl-Friedrich Scheufele, co-president of Chopard at the prize presentation ceremony.

Timepieces run for the jewellery watch category included Bulgari’s Serpenti Barocko (photo 2), Chanel’s Mademoiselle Privé Bouton décor Byzantin (photo 3), Hermès’ Kelly Joaillerie (photo 4), Piaget’s Exquisite Moments (photo 5) and Van Cleef & Arpels’ Ludo secret watch (photo 6).

The ‘Aiguille d’Or’ Grand Prix, the best in show prize, was awarded to Bulgari for its ‘Octo Finissimo’ watch (photo 7). (Photo courtesy: GPHG)
