The latest data released by Mastercard SpendingPulse recorded a 78% increase over the Thanksgiving weekend holiday between 26 November and 28 November, compared with the same period last year, higher than SpendingPulse’s September prediction of a 50% increase in jewellery sales in the Thanksgiving holiday.
A survey by the National Retail Federation and Prosper Insights & Analytics indicated almost 180 million people went holiday shopping in-person and online, from Thanksgiving Day to Cyber Monday, 26 November – 2 December, a 4-percent drop compared with 186.4 million shoppers last year. NRF President and CEO Matthew Shay said retailers began to offer incentives this November. Meanwhile, customers have started Thanksgiving holiday shopping earlier in the past few years. 82 percent of the shoppers told the deals were more attractive than this time last year, if not the same.
