In its Jewels and Jadeite auction taking place at the JW Marriott Hotel in Hong Kong on 27 November at 11am HKT, Phillips unveiled 96 vintage and modern pieces of exceptionally curated jewels, including flawless diamond ring, coloured gemstones, signed vintage jewellery and jadeites. Meanwhile, Phillips offered an e-auction of “Treasures from Zambia: An Exceptional Emerald Collection” between 23 November and 2 December.
The two physical auctions - Jewels & Jadeite and Sensational Jewels from a Prominent Middle Eastern Collector – and online auction achieved HK$146 and HK$35 million respectively. An emerald and diamond pendant necklace was sold for HK$8.11 million, setting a world auction record for the highest price for a Zambian emerald as well as a world record for the highest value coloured stone sold online.
Graeme Thompson, Worldwide Head of Jewellery, Phillips was pleased with the results and said, “We are seeing significant growth season on season, with the two live auctions, Jewels & Jadeite and Sensational Jewels from a Prominent Middle Eastern Collector, far exceeding the pre-sale high estimates and achieving a combined total of HK$146 million / US$18.7 million, a 108% increase from the previous year.We welcomed our ever-growing community of collectors from across the globe, bidding in the room, over the phone and online. The number of online registrants doubled that of last season, with 30% of lots selling to online bidders.”
