The Israel-based diamond and emerald supplier Eshed-Gemstar won the bidding for a 7,525 carat emerald during Gemfields’ latest Zambian emerald auction. The sum for the emerald is not given. Geologists Manas Banerjee and Richard Kapeta and his team found the 1,505g giant emerald named Chipembele ("rhino" in meaning) at the Kagem mine in Zambia operated by Gemfields London office in July. A portion of the sale’s proceeds will be allocated for the North Luangwa Conservation Programme in Zambia.
