Lightbox Sells Lower-Quality Lab-Grown Diamonds

Lightbox, De Beers’ lab-grown diamond brand has been selling lower-quality lab-grown diamonds at a reduced price of $600 per carat for many month under its Lightbox Basics line which was originally branded as Lightbox Outlet

Lab-grown diamonds from the line are in SI clarity sold loosely and set in sterling silver. The brand did not publicise the launch of the line but only promoted it in October 2021 on its social media channels.

The standard Lightbox line offers near colourless, VS1-VS2 stones and has carried a fixed price of $800 per carat since Lightbox’s launch in 2018. In 2021, the brand also brought out a higher-quality range called Finest featuring colourless, VVS1 to VVS2 stones at a price of $1,500 per carat.

The company spokesperson said: “True to Lightbox’s mission, to make the sparkle of a diamond available to more people, more often, Lightbox Basics offers a still-beautiful stones at a lower price, giving consumers the opportunity to get the most sparkle for their budget.”

More recently, the company added new fancy shapes to its collection of loose lab-grown diamonds in the standard Lightbox range. It now offers lab-grown baguettes and cushion cuts in sizes ranging from half-carat to nearly two carats and in all three colours the Lightbox factory produces - white, pink and blue. They are priced using the $800-per-carat structure.
