Christie’s New York auction totalled nearly $59M

Christie’s Magnificent Jewels sale at Christie’s New York closed on 6 December 2022 with 93 percent sold by lot and totalled at $58.8 million.

The top lot of the auction was a necklace set with a 31.62-carat fancy blue pear modified brilliant-cut diamond which is described as the largest fancy blue diamond to appear at auction. The lot fetched $11.8 million, which is within its pre-sale estimate range.

The top second lot was a pendant necklace featuring a pear brilliant-cut diamond weighing 86.64 carats and 78 pear diamonds, set in platinum and white gold. It fell within its estimate and sold for $5.7 million.

There was a signed Graff brooch centred on a 107.46-carat fancy yellow round-cornered square diamond, with round and baguette-cut diamond accents, set in 18-karat white and yellow gold, which is sold for $2.6 million.

A 13.15-carat fancy vivid pink diamond was suddenly pulled without explanation in the lead-up to the auction. The emerald-cut diamond had an estimate of up to $35 million and was unearthed by Court Watch revealing it was actually stolen from a wealthy citizen in Doha, Qatar. (Photo courtesy: Christie’s)
