The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) announced the 2022 Gianmaria Buccellati Foundation Award winner recently.
The Gianmaria Buccellati Award for Excellence in Design was established in partnership with the Gianmaria Buccellati Foundation in 2018 to recognise outstanding talent in design among GIA students globally. In its sixth year, the award went to a student from the GIA London school for the first time, Sara Guergova.
Larry French, chief officer of North America strategies at the Gianmaria Buccellati Foundation said: “On behalf of the Gianmaria Buccellati Foundation, we want to congratulate Sara Guergova, this year's winner, plus all the other finalists whose work so enriched this year's competition.”
Winner Sara Guergova said of the honour presented at a GIA event in Tucson: “The evening was incredibly inspirational, but then also to go on and receive the Gianmaria Buccellati Foundation Award; it was truly an unforgettable experience for me. In a way, it validates the hard work throughout the years and diminishes any previous self-doubt in what I can achieve.”
Every year over 200 students’ work is reviewed and recognised by peers, faculty, and ultimately by a panel of distinguished judges to determine an awardee. A student exhibition of finalists will be organised and displayed in Tucson and New York.
The competition for the 2023 award is already underway and open to GIA jewellery design students. Click here for eligibility requirements and more information.
