The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) is accepting applications for merit-based scholarships available to both US and international students. The deadline for applications is 30 September 2023.
GIA will award a total of $2 million in scholarships for courses and programmes starting from 1 January through 30 June of 2024, said the institute. This includes the revamped Graduate Jeweler program which is set to launch in 2024.
“We are committed to supporting our students and helping them achieve their dreams which is why GIA awarded $2 million in scholarships,” said senior vice-president of education and chief academic officer of GIA, Duncan Pay. “Through our scholarship programmes, we are able to provide financial assistance to students who demonstrate a passion for gemmology or the jewellery arts and a commitment to excellence.”
In addition, there are need-based scholarships for those who qualify. These are accessible year-round for prospective US students and require a completed Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form.
Since 2015, GIA has awarded more than $12 million in scholarships and helped over 2,500 students study at GIA schools around the world and through distance education programmes, according to the institute.
