Christie’s 10th Shanghai Auction Anniversary: Luxury Evening Sale luxury sale was held on 23 September 2023 on the Bund in Shanghai. The sales featured a selection of jewellery and Hermès handbags. Out of the 31 lots on offer, twenty-seven found buyers, generating a total of CNY 52.8 million (around $7.3 million) and a sell-through rate of 87 percent.
The top three most expensive lots went to three diamond rings from renowned jewellery maisons, including Bulgari, Van Cleef & Arpels, and Harry Winston.
A 25.13-carat yellow-diamond ring was the top seller, fetching CNY 20.3 million (around $2.8 million), more than double its high estimate. Signed Bulgari, the fancy-vivid-yellow diamond ring is in VVS2 clarity with cut-cornered square modified brilliant cut. It had an upper price of CNY 8.5 million (around $1.2 million) at the sale.
The other two leading items at the auction included a marquise brilliant-cut, 11.16-carat, D-color, internally flawless, type IIa diamond ring by Van Cleef & Arpels, which went for CNY 7.3 million ($999,611), within its estimate; A Harry Winston ring with an emerald-cut, 10.07-carat, D-flawless diamond flanked by two tapered baguette-cut diamonds which fetched CNY 6.6 million ($897,140), just over its high estimate.
