Christie’s kicked off Jewels Online, the first jewellery sale of the season with exceptional results from 11 to 21 March 2024. The sale achieved a total of $13,521,438 and was sold 131percent by its low estimate, 100 percent by value, and 97 percent by lot.
The sale showcased a diverse array of curated pieces, including signed jewels, diamonds, coloured gemstones, and esteemed designs from renowned brands such as Buccellati, Bulgari, Cartier, David Webb, Hemmerle, Seaman Schepps, Tiffany, Jean Schlumberger, Van Cleef & Arpels, and Verdura.
The top lot of the sale was a Kashmir sapphire and diamond ring which nearly tripled its low estimate, selling for $856,800. The piece contains a cushion mixed-cut, 8.19-carat sapphire flanked by trapezoid-shaped diamonds, and it carried a presale price range of $300,000 to $500,000. Other top lots included a 17-carat diamond ring by Harry Winston which realised $819,000; a Cartier diamond pendant-necklace that sold for $604,800; and a pair of Bulgari diamond earrings which achieved $428,400.
According to the auction house, jewels featuring sapphires and emeralds were favourites and overall exceeded expectations. A star sapphire and diamond ring performed exceptionally well, achieving $107,100 which was nearly nine times its low estimate.
