GIA to Pilot New Jewellery Reports

The service will provide a comprehensive description of each submitted piece, including details on metals, gemstones, any existing engravings, and the characteristics such as carat weight, clarity and color for any diamonds that do not have previous GIA reports. Details of jewellery set with diamonds that already have existing GIA report numbers will be included in the report and will be linked to GIA’s Report Check for added verification, said the institute.

According to GIA, the institute will also give options to purchase a 360-degree video of the item, an updated report for any new engraving, and other features will be available for an additional fee. GIA jewellery report numbers will be alphanumeric, assuring a unique and secure identification for each piece.

Tom Moses, executive vice president and chief laboratory officer of GIA, said: “This service is an extension of GIA’s ongoing commitment to ensure consumer confidence and trust in jewellery.” (Photo courtesy: GIA)
