Damiani to acquire Baume & Mercier

Richemont and the Damiani Group have announced an agreement under which the Italian luxury house will acquire Baume & Mercier, the historic Swiss watchmaker, in a private transaction. The deal marks the Damiani’s first move into the high-end watchmaking segment and is expected to close in the summer of 2026, pending regulatory approval. Financial details were not disclosed.

Founded in 1830, Baume & Mercier is renowned for its elegant, accessible timepieces and nearly two centuries of watchmaking heritage. Its acquisition strengthens Damiani’s portfolio of “hard luxury” brands, which already includes Damiani, Salvini, Bliss, Calderoni, and Murano-based glassmaker Venini, as well as its multi-brand distributor Rocca.

Under the agreement, Richemont will continue to provide operational services for Baume & Mercier for at least 12 months following completion, ensuring a smooth transition. Damiani plans to enhance the Maison’s international presence by capitalising on its extensive multi-brand retail network and by opening select branded boutiques in strategic markets.

Richemont stated that Baume & Mercier’s potential “will be best realised as part of the Damiani Group”, citing the Italian firm’s strong retail footprint and expertise in accessible luxury.  (Photo courtesy: Baume & Mercier )
