Gemfields has reported total revenue of US$29.6 million from its latest online auction of commercial-quality rough emeralds, marked by strong demand and a 100-percent sell-through rate.
The sale, held between 24 August and 10 September, featured gemstones sourced from the miner's Kagem mine in Zambia. In-person viewings took place in Jaipur, India, drawing high levels of customer engagement and positive feedback regarding both lot composition and gem quality.
All 44 lots on offer—totalling 3 million carats—found buyers. The average price per carat rose to US$9.72 (nearing US$10), representing a 30-percent jump compared with US$7.46 per carat achieved at the company's previous commercial-quality emerald auction in late 2025, and more than double the levels seen in early 2024. Total revenue also grew nearly 17 percent from US$25.4 million recorded in the prior sale.
"It has been nine months since our last commercial-quality emerald auction, and I am particularly encouraged by this robust result," said Adrian Banks, Gemfields' managing director of product and sales. He added that the performance demonstrates sustained market appetite for commercial-grade emeralds as well as steady production at Kagem over the past year. (Photo courtesy: Gemfields)
