Pearl necklace fetches price record at Christie’s New York sale

Christie’s New York Magnificent Jewels saleon 14 April 2015 totalled US$41.9 million or approximately HK$324 million, and was 77 percent sold by lot and value.A four-strand natural coloured saltwater pearl necklace was bought for US$5.093 million or approximately HK$39.477 million fetched a world record price for any natural coloured pearl necklace sold at auction, and the top lot was a platinum ring set with a purplish pink diamond sold for US$5.765 million or approximately HK$44.686 million.

 

The pearl necklace consists of natural grey and brown pearls, measuring in size from 4.90 mm to 12.65 mm. The strands are joined by a clasp that is set with a cushion-cut diamond, weighing approximately 3.03 carats. This necklace was purchased by a private buyer from Asia exceeded pre-auction estimates of US$3.8million to US$4.5 million.

 

The platinum ring set with a purplish pink diamond, weighing approximately 5.29 carats, and flanked on either side by a half moon-cut diamond, exceeded pre-sale estimates of US$3.5 million to US$4.5 million.
