The Gems and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) released the latest official monthly dada on 19 May 2015, indicating that total exports of gems and jewellery in April 2015 recorded US$2,436.65 million as compared to US$2,736.11 million last year. Exports of cut and polished diamonds dropped by 11.03 percent year-on-year from US$1,838.54 million to US$1,635.71 million, and gold jewellery (plain and studded) declined by 18.16 percent from US$643.61 million to US$526.76 million.
According to GJEPC, the exports of silver jewellery rose by 7.78 percent to US$120.88 million, and with the growth of 0.23 percent year-on-year, coloured gemstone segment registered US$25.76 million total exports in April this year. Similarly, the exports of synthetic stone grew fast with almost 20 percent from US$6.91 million to US$8.38 million year-on-year.
