METS 2015 – Asian buyers doubled

The second edition of METS – Machinery, Equipment, Technology and Supplies for Jewellery & Watch Industry was held 24-27 June 2015 at Kowloonbay International Trade & Exhibition Centre (KITEC). The show recorded an almost-double number of visitors from Asia besides Hong Kong, the world’s jewellery and watch making hub, said organiser HKJJA Exhibition Services Limited in a just-published press release.

By 2016, according to the organiser, METS will be an integral part of the Hong Kong International Jewellery Show under the new name ‘T-GOLD + METS PAVILION’ in collaboration with the March show organiser Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC). “Show participants were enthusiastic to learn about the brand new format of METS in 2016,” said the press release.

“Excluding Hong Kong, 35 percent of buyers came from Asia where a vast majority of jewellery and watches is manufactured. The encouraging figures have proved the success of our painstaking marketing and promotion campaigns ever launched,” said Ken Lo, chairman of the METS exhibition committee.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Hong Kong Jewellery & Jade Manufacturers Assiciation (HKJJA) and the 10th anniversary of the ‘Adopt-A-School’ Project (AASP). In celebration of the momentous milestone, a banquet was held on the first day of METS 2015. The Chief Secretary for Administration Mrs. Carrie Lam inaugurated the grand event which was attended by global industry leaders and trade association representatives, government officials and international media. Special thanks were given to companies who have been HKJJA’s members for 40 years and above.

When addressing the new show format next year, Ken Lo said: “We are honoured to co-organise ‘T-Gold + METS PAVILION’ with HKTDC at such an esteemed trade fair thanks to the longstanding and cordial relationship between HKTDC and HKJJA, as well as our dedication to serving the Hong Kong jewellery industry. I believe, with such a strong backing, we can be more focused on sourcing the most suitable, advanced and cost-effective manufacturing solutions for the world’s jewellery and watch makers.”
