The American Gem Trade Association (AGTA) announced the winners of the AGTA Spectrum Awards 2016 on 29 October 2015. In its 32nd edition this year, the annual coloured gemstone and cultured pearl design competition received the ever-largest number of 492 entries.
Under the ‘Best of…’ category, ‘Best of Show’ went to a suite of Paraiba tourmaline nautilus shell carvings by Allen Kleiman of A Kleiman & Co. An 18-karat gold earrings set with blue-green tourmalines accented with emeralds by Bella Campbell of Campbellian won ‘Best Use of Colour’. ‘Best Use of Pearls’ went to a freshwater baroque cultured pearl and diamond strand by Naomi Sarna of Naomi Sarna Designs. ‘Best Use of Platinum and Color’ belonged to the Symphony of Colour bracelet set featuring tourmalines by Andrew Costen of Costen Catbalue. An oxidized silver and mixed gold diamond pendant by William Travis Kukovich of William Travis Jewelry was named ‘Best Use of Silver and Color’. The ‘Fashion Forward’ award went to the 24-karat yellow gold Wheel of Light pendant featuring coloured stones designed by Brian Cook of Nature’s Geometry.
