Gübelin's collections deeply inspired by inclusions

Gübelin Jewelry has launched ‘The Pioneer Collection’ inspired by six inclusions described by Eduard J Gubelin, founder of House of Gübelin. The new pieces were launched at a cocktail reception on 27 November 2015 in Hong Kong where CEO Raphael Gübelin, managing director (jewellery and watches) Hanspeter Pieth and Helen Molesworth, managing director of Gübelin Academy talked the audience through the creations under the theme ‘Deeply Inspired’.

Through his pioneering microphotography of gem inclusions, Eduard J Gübelin penetrated the inner lives of gemstones, discovering the natural landscapes of precious gemstones including the glowing fires inside rubies, the deep seas inside sapphires and the mystical gardens inside emeralds. His photographs as well as worded descriptions are the inspiration behind the new collection.

Gübelin’s designers have found different ways to interpret the forms and shapes provided by the inclusions. For rubies, the ‘Glowing Fires’ world evokes the many facets of fire, passion and love through Glowing Ember and Sparks of Fire. The ‘Deep Sea’ world is made up of Glowing Jellyfish and Drops of Water sapphire jewellery which remind us of the mysteries of deep blue waters filled with bubbles and sea creatures. For emeralds, Ornament of Flowers and Ancient Path are part of the ‘Mystical Garden’ which recalls for us the shapes and colours of trees, flowers and tranquility.

At the launching event Gübelin also introduced a series of inclusion-inspired masterpieces including ‘Wings of a Dragonfly’ ruby necklace and ‘The Story of the Seahorse’ sapphire ring.

The House of Gübelin currently operates three gem labs in Lucerne, Hong Kong and New York, several boutiques in major cities of Switzerland, Kuala Lumpur and a salon in Hong Kong, together with two academies in Lucerne and Hong Kong.
