Jointly organised by the World Gold Council,JNA and CJNAof UBM Asia and the People's Government of Yantian District, Shenzhen with the support of the Culture, Sports and Tourism Administration of Shenzhen Municipality and exclusive sponsor — Shenzhen Batar Investment Holding Group Limited, Xifu International Gold Wedding Jewellery Design Competition 2017 launched a press conference on 1 January 2017 in Yantian, Shenzhen.
Roland Wang, Managing Director, China of World Gold Council said the aim of the competition is to establish a professional gold jewellery design platform that truly connects with international outstanding designers and to develop a gold jewellery industry chain that bridges high-value added wedding gold jewellery and the young consumer market.
With the theme of ‘oneness’, the competition is divided into pure gold category and gem-set gold jewellery category. To correspond with the theme, all entries must be gold jewellery sets of two pieces of 18-karat or higher gold content. The competition is open to all design talents, individual jewellery designers, jewellery design professionals or jewellery design students.
Regarding the prize, the total prize was worth over a million yuan, which according to the organiser makes it the highest of all design competitions in 2017 worldwide. Gold bullion will be awarded as the prize. The grand prize winner (one) will receive a one-kilogram bullion; the first prize winner (two) will receive a 500-gram bullion; the second prize winner (four) will receive a 200-gram bullion; the third prize winner (six) will receive a 100-gram bullion. There will be 17 finalists. Besides, the organiser will offer to sign commercial contracts with the winners to produce and sell the winning designs.
Applications can be submitted online between 1 March and 31 May 2017 together with the design draft, technical design, design and material descriptions. First-round judging will be held in early June and selected designs will be manufactured. Final judging will be held by selecting from manufactured pieces. The prize presentation ceremony will be held in September 2017.
