US polished diamond imports down in March

According to the US government data, polished diamond imports dropped three percent to US$1.99 billion in March 2017, and were down 10 percent to 970,953 carats by volume. The average per-carat price of imports rose eight percent to US$2,045, quoted Rapaport.

For suppliers, Israel’s exports to the United States rose 13 percent to US$606.4 million, India’s slid three percent to US$673.8 million, Belgium’s dropped one percent to US$281.5 million.

The US polished exports grew seven percent to US$1.58 billion, marking a lowered net polished imports at US$402 million, a reduction of 28 percent.

In terms of rough, the US exports jumped 81 percent to US$47 million, while imports fell 22 percent to US$35 million.

The total rough and polished imports minus total exports contracted 33 percent to US$389 million, said Rapaport.
