Skolorr, the first online marketplace for independent watchmakersin the world was launched in July 2017, with the aim to connect a new generation of watch buyers directly with the makers, presenting the opportunity to discover and acquire cutting-edge haute horology on a highly exclusive scale of production.
Acting as a matchmaker between the brands and end-customers, Skolorr has 20 brands so far in its portfolio including Fiona Krüger, Manufacture Royale and Hautlence, and aims to quintuple by 2020. It showcases timepieces handpicked by a team of industry insiders with expert knowledge.
According to the company, with over 400 boutique-sized independent watchmakers around the world, independents are an important part of the horological landscape, where most innovation occurs out of creative autonomy. However, such boutique watchmakers are not easily discovered, and are often the preserve of the connoisseurs. Skolorr aims to cut down the search process for customers.
The London-based bespoke-built platform uses pioneering online marketplace technology and transaction services to cater for the next-generation retail experience. Payments are held in Escrow, a financial arrangement where a third party holds and regulates payment of the funds required for two parties involved in a given transaction, until delivery for the buyers’ peace of mind.
