Partnering with local columnist Chip Tsao, renowned Hong Kong fei cui jewellery brand Edward Chiu Jewellery Art launched a collection of fountain pens made with black jade, white jade and black diamonds on 17 July 2017. A series of 10 fountain pen sketches by Tsao were on exhibition in the jewellery brand’s retail shop at IFC Mall, Central.
Regarding the crossover, Tsao said: “My goal is to encourage people to use less electronic devicessuch as smartphones and computers to write or draw with manually made instruments.” Commenting on the difference between the average fountain pen and the jade creation, he said “jade is filled with life while steel is not”.
According to the brand, the first pen of the series, which is numbered 001, is already owned by Tsao and many clients have placed orders upon learning the launch. The jade fountain pen is sold at about HK$40,000. The brand described the creation to be a breakthrough both in the jewellery and the fountain pen industry.
As the brand will close their shop by the end of July as their tenancy came to an end, the event also served as a farewell party attended by friends and clients of the brand. Chip Tsao’s work will be on display at Edward Chiu Jewellery Art’s shop until 29 July 2017.
