India’s exports of cut and polished diamonds valued US$1.645 billion in July 2017, a marginal drop over the same month in 2016 at US$1.651 billion, according to the provisional data from The Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council of India.
In the same period rough imports was at US$1.33 billion, marking a decrease by 6.1 percent compared to US$1.41 billion in July 2016. In volume terms, 13.7 million carats of roughs were imported in July 2017, up 16 percent from 11.8 million carats of July 2016.
Imports of cut and polished diamonds were down 8.4 percent to US$ 227.9 million in July 2017 from US$248.88 million in July 2016.
Exports of cut and polished diamonds in April-July 2017 were up 2.4 percent to US$7.42 billion as compared to US$7.25 billion in July 2016.
