Alrosa, the world’s largest producer of rough diamonds in carats, started a global roadshow for The Dynasty collection of polished diamonds in Hong Kong on 19 September 2017.
The collection consists of five diamonds produced from one 179-carat rough diamond,The Romanovs which was recovered from the Nyurbinskaya kimberlite pipe in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) in 2015. The centerpiece of the collection is a 51.38-carat 57-facet traditional round brilliant-cut diamond in triple excellent cut, D colour, VVS1 clarity, the best clarity characteristics ever manufactured in Russia, said Alrosa. The entire collection has been certified by the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) to confirm its characteristics.
It took Alrosa specialists 18 months to create the collection and achieve the outstanding quality of the diamonds. During the roadshow, Evgeniy Tsybukov, deputy director for sales of Alrosa revealed that initially there was an option to cut the rough into a large-size oval-shaped diamond, while after they found a fracture inside the rough that could give the outcome a lower-grade clarity, they rejected the plan and decided to cut it into five stones with higher level of clarity.
With the focus on large size polished diamonds, Alrosa will promote their polished diamond brand later this year, said Tsybukov. “We want to reinforce our presence in Hong Kong as the China market has huge potential and we believe local customers will like our diamonds,” he added. He also stated that another target market for them is the United States, considering that the States is still the world’s largest diamond jewellery consumer market.
