Asia's most expensive pink matches world record

29-11-2017

‘The Pink Promise’ ring set with a 14.93-carat fancy vivid pink VVS1 type IIA diamond fetched HK$250 million (US$32 million) at the magnificent jewels autumn sale held by Christie’s Hong Kong yesterday, making it the most expensive jewellery sold by Christie’s in Asia.

Vickie Sek, deputy chairman and director of Jewellery Asia, said: “At US$2.15m, The Pink Promise matched the world record price per carat for a pink diamond that was last set at Christie’s Hong Kong in 2009. The fact that this time around it was for a diamond three times larger, speaks to the evolution of the market and collectors appetite at the highest level.”

Claimed the second highest price was a fei cui bead, ruby and diamond necklace which realised HK$96 million. Another pink highlight, an 8.80-carat fancy intense pink VVS 1 type IIA diamond ring, was sold for HK$75 million. The 28.04-carat paparadscha sapphire and diamond ring, also a pre-show highlight, achieved HK$19 million.

The Wallace Chan collection was all sold at the auction.
