Mikimoto’s 125th anniversary exhibition is being held at the IFC mall in Hong Kong till 6 May.
The centerpiece of the exhibition, the famous sash clip ‘Yaguruma’ is set with akoya pearls, diamonds and sapphires. The masterpiece can be detached and used in 12 configurations including brooches, rings and hairpins. The original sash clip was exhibited in 1937 at the World Exposition in Paris where the exquisite craftsmanship and avant-garde design of Mikimoto jewellery astonished the world.
In celebration of the anniversary, the pearl brand has launched the new Yaguruma Collection, a modern interpretation of the legendary sash clip. Among the highlights are the 18-karat gold necklaces with akoya pearls and golden South Sea pearls or Tahitian pearls featuring sublime colour gradation.
The Praise to Nature high jewellery collection is an important creation paying tribute to the harmony of nature and people. The three-butterfly brooch set with a large South Sea pearl of 18.6mm, diamonds, sapphires, pink and yellow sapphires depicts a vivid picture of flamboyant butterflies fluttering around the garden. The ‘Autumn Season Ring’ with a golden South Sea pearl and the ‘Winter Season Ring’ with a Tahitian pearl are painstakingly-matched with coloured stones capturing the beauty of the seasons.
Also on display is ‘Les Pétales Place Vendôme’ under Pétales Collection inspired by Paris where witnesses the establishment of the Mikimoto boutique for nearly a century. The collection set with South Sea pearls, akoya pearls and diamonds takes design inspirations from rose petals that float in the air and descend onto the Place Vendôme.
