Hong Kong’s polished diamond imports increased 10 percent to US$5.17 billion in the first quarter of 2018, said a Rough & Polished report.
Total imports of polished by volume surged six percent to 5.3 million carats; the average per carat price increased three percent to US$982. In value terms, polished imports from Hong Kong’s biggest source India increased four percent to US$2.36 billion, Belgium was up by 27 percent to US$504.4 million, US rose two percent to US$493 million, and Israel slashed seven percent to US$434.3 million.
In 2018 Q1, Hong Kong’s totally polished exports grew four percent to US$3.53 billion. Exports to mainland China rose 11 percent to US$808.1 million.
Rough imports in the same period marked an increase of 61 percent to US$539.1 million; rough exports were up 85 percent to US$907.6 million.
