Alrosa’s sales jumped 28 percent to US$405 million in April. Diamond trading slowed in the month in line with seasonality, however, the demand and sales were robust amid an optimistic market.
The miner sold 101 rough diamonds over 10.8 carats with a total weight of 1751.1 carats for $14.8 million at an auction in Vladivostok last month. The total sales jumped 28 percent to US$396.2 million, while polished revenue increased 20 percent to US$9.1 million.
“In January-April, world markets saw consistent high demand for rough diamonds, the total diamond sales in January to April 2018 amounted to $2.011 billion, with rough diamonds sales totalling $1.978 billion and polished diamond sales $32.9 million,” said Alrosa deputy CEO Yury Okoemov.
