Asia’s largest Golconda diamond be auctioned in Hong Kong

The Golconda diamond pendent necklace, named The Eye of Golconda, will be the headline lot at the forthcoming Christie’s Hong Kong spring jewellery auction at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre on 27 May.

The necklace sets with a Columbian emerald and two Golconda diamonds, one of which weighing 40.05 carats, type IIa, D colour and internally flawless clarity graded by the Gemological Institute of America (GIA). This pear-shaped diamond is also claimed to be the largest Golconda diamond ever to be auctioned in Asia. Golconda diamonds are often described as diamonds of first water, characterised by an almost indefinable water-clear appearance. According to Christie’s Hong Kong, the estimate price is around HK$66.5 million – HK$80 million (US$ 8.5million – US$ 10million).

Other featured lots include 9.38 carats pear-shaped fancy intense pink diamond, Burmese rubies and sapphires, Colombian emeralds, D colour flawless clarity type IIa diamonds and some vintage pieces from Bulgari, Harry Winston and Van Cleef & Arpels.
