A 1960 Omega watch gifted to Elvis Presley by RCA Records as a commemoration for selling 75 million records fetched US$1.8 million at Phillip’s auction.
It was estimated to sell for between US$ 54,000 to US$108,000 and hammered for US$ 1, 812, 500, the highest ever paid for the Swiss watch brand.
The watch is 18-carat white gold with a case back engraved: “To Elvis, 75 Million Records, RCA Victor, 12-25-60.” 12-25-60 refers to 25th December, 1960, the date of hailing the sales milestone, a bezel set with 44 round brilliant diamonds and a dial features Tiffany & Co.’s logo.
Alex Ghotbi, the head of sales for Phillips Watches in Geneva said Elvis was photographed several times wearing the timepiece.
