The magnificent jewels auction held by Christie’s Hong Kong yesterday fetched a total of HK$563 million (US$72 million), setting new records for a coloured diamond bracelet and the price for Paraiba tourmaline.
The top lot went to the Moussaieff necklace set with an 8.01-carat pear-shaped fancy vivid blue IF diamond and a fancy intense pink diamond (photo 1) which was sold for nearly HK$160 million. The coloured diamond bracelet designed by Edmond Chin for Boghossian (photo 2) achieved HK$35 million, well above the high estimate and set the world auction record for a coloured diamond bracelet. The necklace made up of 69 natural fei cui beads with diamonds, another pre-auction highlight, was sold for HK$34 million to an Asian private collector.
A pair of Brazilian Paraiba tourmaline ear pendants set with a 7.46 and a 6.84 carat pear-shaped stones (photo 3) fetched HK$22 million or US$194,730 per carat, setting the world auction record price per carat for a Paraiba tourmaline.
