Cartier creates a high jewellery replica (photo 1) for the character Daphne Kluger acted by actress Anna Hathaway (photo 2) in the movie Ocean’s 8.
The original necklace ‘Jeanne Toussaint’ was designed by Jacques Cartier in 1931 for maharaja of Nawanagar, king of the Nawanagar state is described as ‘the finest cascade of coloured diamonds in the world’ embed with Queen of Holland, a 136.25 carats blue-white diamond. Although the necklace no longer exists, Cartier has preserved the design (photo 3) and photographs of the piece and its owner (photo 4) to recreate. The piece was reduced by 15-20 percent in size as it was initially designed for a man. Jewellers of the necklace were required to finish the piece within eight weeks on top of their daily tasks.
Major scenes of Ocean’s 8 were filmed at the Cartier Mansion, which was closed for two days for transforming the Mansion into cinema sets and filming. The movie opens in theatres on 14 June is about a squad of women in an attempt to heist the necklace.
