Sotheby’s announced an auction entitled ‘Royal Jewels from the Bourbon-Parma Family’ will be in Geneva on 12 November. Over 100 lots all owned by the Bourbon-Parma family with more than 200 years of history will come under the hammer.
‘Descended from Louis XIV of France, the Holy Roman Emperors and from Pope Paul III,’ Daniela Mascetti, Deputy Chairman, Sotheby’s Jewellery Europe and Senior International Specialist said. She added the collection has never seen in public.
A diamond pendant (photo1) which belonged to Marie-Antoinette, Queen of France with a natural pearl is expected to fetch up to US$2 million. A necklace composed of 95 diamonds (photo 2) and a necklace featuring 331 natural pearls (photo 3) are both estimated to yield up to US$300,000. “This extraordinary collection offers a fascinating glimpse of the life of this family in centuries gone by,” Mascetti said. Some pieces were once smuggled out of the country when French King Louis XVI, Marie Antoinette and their children tried to flee the French Revolution back in March 1791.
