Kimberley Process Certification Scheme (KPCS) released the annual global summary report of the trade in rough diamonds in 2017. The figures show Russia was the largest producer of rough diamonds in volume and value, produced 42.6 million carats of rough which valued at US$ 4.1 billion. However, its share dipped 1.85 percent. India remained the largest importer of rough diamonds in volume and value, 39.8 percent of global rough imports in volume.
Canada edged out Botswana and became the largest rough producing country in volume while Botswana remained the second largest in terms of value, followed by The Democratic Republic of Congo and Australia were the 4th and 5th largest producing countries by volume and South Africa, Canada and Angola ranked 3rd, 4th and 5th respectively in value.
