De Beers’ rough diamond production climbed three percent to 9.4 million carats in Q2, increased 4 million carats yoy. Production in Namibia increased 32 percent to 515,000 carats. There is a 17 percent and six percent increase in Canada and Botswana respectively. However, South Africa’s production took a 28 percent dive owing to a suspended production period.
De Beers explained the sales volumes benefited from positive sentiment and growth in consumer demand for diamond in late 2017. The miner forecasts a 34- 36 million carats diamonds this year.
