Themed ‘Heritage & Craftsmanship’, the 62nd Bangkok Gems & Jewelry Fair (BGJF) brought down its curtain on 11 September 2018 with an “overwhelming success”, said Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP), fair organiser.

Products generated the highest value of trade was gemstones (THB 985 million), followed by gold jewellery (THB 328 million), diamonds (THB 222 million), silver jewellery (THB 217 million) and machinery (THB 213 million).
A total of 914 companies participated in the fair occupying 2,066 booths. There were 800 local exhibitors including 150 new brands and SMEs from 18 provinces. Overseas exhibitors were coming from around the globe, such as Hong Kong, Poland, Turkey, Japan, Singapore, India, Taiwan, etc. Visitors were coming from 107 countries and regions, with most of them from India, China, Myanmar, the United States and Vietnam.
The 62nd BGJF has allocated a generous space for creative designer jewellery spreading across different zones such as ‘The Niche Showcase’, ‘The New Faces’, ‘The Jewellers’, ‘Creative Jewelry’, and ‘Innovative and Design Zone’.
Several Asian countries and regions including Cambodia, Hong Kong and Vietnam had set up their own pavilions at the fair. The ‘Hong Kong Pavilion’, for instance, was co-organised by the Hong Kong Jewellery & Jade Manufacturers Association (HKJJA) with nearly 15 renowned jewellery manufacturers from the city.
DITP’s director-general Chantira Jimreivat Vivatrat said: “This edition of the fair proved to be very successful. Our exhibitors held negotiations with both new and existing trade partners while overseas buyers were highly interested in The New Faces zone that featured up-and-coming brands and Thai SMEs. Thai entrepreneurs that joined DITP project were able to sell their products at the fair and meet potential overseas buyers who are likely to place orders in the future that will ultimately have a positive effect for the manufacturing sector and export sector for the Thai gems and jewellery industry.”
